Weekend Nostalgia

What a weekend!

Let me start off by saying that Ross and I went to Southwest Texas, now named Texas State. It has the third largest student population in Texas. It falls behind University of Texas and Texas A&M. In my opinion, it is the BEST university in Texas and I hope my little muffin children will one day have a diploma hanging in their offices from this school.

For some reason, our athletics have never been included as a Division 1 school. We have never really played any big name colleges or had our games broadcasted on television. Because of this there hasn't ever been a big fan following. I will admit, I can count on one hand of how many football games I attended while I was there. Tailgating, yes. Sitting in the stands, no. Sad. I know. That is until NOW.

Texas State is now a Division 1 school which means we get to play bigger named colleges like this weekend when we went head to head against Texas Tech. This was HUGE for us. It was on TV and had the biggest attendance in school history with a completely sold out game. I have been looking forward to this for weeks. Even though we got a rear ends handed to us on silver platter (58-10), I could not have been more proud to wear my Bobcat maroon and gold.

I always wanted to relive one more day of college. You know, go back and experience it one last time. Well, sometimes dreams do come true. Let's just say I played pretend on Saturday and for a few hours I was 20 again. And, Mom, I know you are reading this, I promise I behaved myself to the best of my ability.

Seriously, this was the most fun I have had in a long time. We ran into so many old faces and friends, hitched a golf cart ride with Mr. Police Officer, did the sorority pose in front of our Delta Zeta letters, took pictures of guys painted from head to toe wearing only their Fruit of the Looms and did what all good tailgaters do, drink a few brewskies.

Game time. The stands were full of energy and free H.E.B. rally towels. Let's do this. Eat'em up CATS. Well, my friends, like I said earlier, we didn't do much "eating". In fact, I think our poor boys got starved. It was embarrassing. Fun, but embarrassing.

Not only embarrassing, but a little sad. We needed to walk off the disappointment and decided it would be a "fun" idea to walk 3 miles from the stadium to the bars on the "square". Okay, I can't lie to you. We did not think it was a good idea to walk. We didn't have a ride. We left the game a little early and our friends are "true" fans and stayed until the end....hence the three mile walk that I bitched about the whole way. The only thing that kept me going was knowing I was about to be at my old stomping grounds. And, yes, we tried to hitch a ride and got denied a few times. Rats! Oh well, I needed to walk off all the unhealthy things I consumed in a 5 hour period. It did my body good.

Success. We made it to the Green Parrot. This place was my third home back in the day. Every Tuesday night we went and listened to Honey Browne play. This is one of my all time favorite songs (click here).  And because this weekend was so special, these guys came back just for all of us old alumni. Holy heck. Talk about nostalgia. It gets better, not only did Honey Browne bring it with all their old school songs, Mr. Randy Rogers himself made a SURPRISE appearance. He is one of Texas Country Music's finest.

So, did you go to any games this weekend or watch a few on TV? Football season is officially in full swing and even though the Bobcats lost, the Houston Texans brought their A game Sunday!

Have a great week, friends. I will be back again a little later today. I have something pretty spectacular to share with you. Stay tuned!

Your weekend looks so fun! I didn't go to a single football or basketball game when I was in college! Yep, I am just not into sports! I would have enjoyed all the bad food and good times with friends though!

I loved seeing your instagrams this weekend! It looked like you were having so much fun. Isn't it so weird to go back to your college town? I've only been out of college a very short time but it's so nostalgic even now. I miss those days!!

Tailgating is fun and it definitely always makes me feel like I'm in college again...maybe that's why I love it so much? At least you had a blast!

Looks like a blast!! Since I am in Nebraska and I'm not a Husker fan... there's not really any football games to go to. I'm jealous of you!

Seriously, you always look like you have the most fantastic weekends! We are not big college football fans, but did spend all day Sunday watching football. Of course, being from Boston, we are all about the Patriots! :)

Looks like you had so much fun! I used to love going to my college's football games (even though I don't know much about football). I haven't been back since I graduated though.

I love college football too. My little university (whom isn't taken too seriously when it comes to football most years) beat our rivals for the first time in like 11 years. It was a good night!

Yay Delta Zeta!! You guys look like you had a BLAST!! So much fun! I went to a commuter school in SoCal so sports weren't that big here :( We don't even have a football team. AND our baseball team is really good, won the World Series twice while I was there and yet people still don't go to the games or have school spirit. Such a college experience rip off!

Thanks for linking up :)

How awesome it must have been to relive your college days :) I feel the same...just one more day please!! Love the DZ letters :) And despite the loss and the 3 mile walk, it looks like you had a blast!! Cal State Fullerton will never have a football team again so I will never experience this :( oh well!!
