Nice 80's Outfit...

Dress:Target / Belt:Another Skirt / Sandals:Payless / Earrings:Forever 21 / Bracelets:Francesca's & Forever 21

I wore this outfit to our crawfish boil on Saturday and this was the comment I received from one of the gents, "Nice, 80's outfit. I didn't know it was a costume party". Funny guy, right?

I am pretty positive that most men don't get the neon trend or have a clue about color blocking or the mint craze or accent nail polish, but do "we" honestly dress for "them" anyway?  I say not. We all know that for the most part, women dress to impress other women.  I mean we are the ones that compliment each another.  I don't hear my dude friends walking up to me saying, "Love those wedges. Where are they from?" or "Your statement necklace is so pretty? Can I borrow it?"

Do you agree?

Eighties style or not, I really do hope the neon colors stick around awhile. If they don't, oh well, at least I will have plenty of options for future costume parties.

In case you were wondering, the crawfish boil was a huge success.  We were so blessed to have had so many good friends and family attend.  The food was amazing, the weather was perfect, lots of laughs were had and plenty of memories were made.

Cheers to making it a great week!

It's a Date...

Happy Friday, Lady Loves!  I have been absent the past few weeks from My Friday's Fancies, but I couldn't pass up this week's theme, Date Night. I had so much fun creating this look.  It felt good to get the styling juices flowing again...I was getting a little rusty.

For my date night inspiration, I immediately thought of Dorothy Perkins for my lacy, romantic dress.  You probably already know about this United Kingdom based store if you use Polyvore for style boards. For those of you who don't, you need to check out their website as soon as you  finish reading this post!  No lie, I could easily take one of everything.  I am especially in love with their dresses and accessories, but what really steals my heart are their prices...completely affordable.  The international shipping costs aren't too shabby either.  It is $10 and the items you order will be on your doorstep in 11 days.

So, do you have a hot date night planned for this weekend?  Well, I have a rendezvous with a few hundred crawfish.  We are hosting our 2nd annual crawfish boil on Saturday with about 70 of our friends.  It should be fun times.  You can't go wrong with a few mud bugs, corn, onions and potatoes in your life!

Cheers to a date filled with sucking crawfish heads while sporting a Dorothy Perkins dress!
Boy, that would be a Kodak moment!

Daisy Duke Style

Top:Old Navy | Jeans:Express | Belt:Target | Wedges:Payless

I bet you thought, by the title, I would be wearing some itty-bitty, cut-off fringed shorts, cowgirl boots and riding around in a Jeep.  I know, I could have used a good laugh today too.  I am sorry to disappoint you.

I say "Daisy Duke Style" because the tie at the bottom reminds me of her (her meaning the original Daisy...not Jessica Simpson).  Miss Daisy always seemed to rock it at the Boar's Nest in her cute little plaid tie tops.  I realize that mine is solid and not plaid, but humor me just for today.

Anyway, if you remember correctly (or maybe you don't because you weren't even a twinkle in your parents' eyes yet) Daisy was a simple, wholesome girl, yet always looked so smokin' hot.  She was one of my idols when I was a little girl.  So, I decided, in honor of the Hazzard County beauty, I was going to keep this outfit simple...a tie top, my extra long Daisy Dukes, big gold hoops and little leopard.  I would bet you a Diet Dr. Pepper that if the show was filming today, Daisy would soooooo be sporting a little leopard. Don't you think?

So, what do you say? Do I pass for a modern day Daisy Duke?  You better say yes because #1 -you are supposed to humoring me today and #2 -I am the Boss Hogg of this blog.

Cheers to playing dress up and pretending to be our favorite TV characters.

Side note: It dawned on me after I took these pictures and wrote this post, that the modern day Daisy Duke would definitely be wearing a statement necklace.  So, I feel like I somewhat failed.  Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

Today I am linking up with these two ladies.  Hop on over, they are pretty grand!

Embarrassing Moment #212

So, as you can see from my wind blown hair, it was super breezy last Saturday.  My lady love friend, Joy (here), and I took a road trip to Houston for our sweet Erica's wedding shower and bachelorette party.  We made a pit stop at Joy's niece's hair salon to get her hair "did".  On our way out, Joy snapped a few pictures of me in my shower attire...in public.  If you have been reading (here), you know that I get super nervous and awkward when taking photos with strangers strolling by.  But, that is not the embarrassing part, the humiliation, laughter and a little snorting came a few minutes later.  After we were done and our hair blown to pieces we started walking to her car. Keep in mind that this was a busy shopping center and a gorgeous day, so people were out and about...lots of people.

We were almost to the car, just strides away, and then it happened...a gush of wind came wooshing right up my pleated skirt...and BAM...it went flying up Marilyn Monroe style.  Just my luck, passing by right next to me, was a nice, little old man in a nice, little white car that got a little big glimpse of my lady business.  Yes, I had my "lacies" on, but they were the "lacies" that don't cover all of my boo-tay.  So, the nice, little old man in the nice, little white car was awarded a 3/4 moon on his Saturday afternoon...and Lord knows who else...like I said, it was a happening place.

I was mortified at first, but then thought, what the heck, at least I made someone laugh today...okay, at least three people laugh...me, Joy and the nice, little old man...okay, not sure if he was really nice (we didn't get a chance to chit-chat or shake hands), but he was old.

Cheers to peeps shows on a Saturday afternoon!

P.S. Here is the beautiful bride.  She was my little sister in our sorority and I fell in love with her the day that we met.  I heart this girl more than words could ever define.  I am so happy for you, Erica!  Owen is the best Irishman on the planet!  And, ladies look at her Ahhhhh-mazing shoes...I would have smuggled them into my suitcase if we wore the same size!

Adios, Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme is Natural Wonders. It definitely made me wonder, "What in the world were they thinking?"  I am pretty positive you will wonder this yourself when you the last picture.

So, here is what came in my box this month:

 Zoya Nail Polish in Lotus
It's no secret that I love nail polish.  What girl doesn't?  My collection is pretty ridiculous and I have zero guilt about about adding to it.  Purple polish is not something I would pick up and buy, but I am up for trying new shades.

 Amika Obliphica Nourishing Mask
A conditioning mask that's supposed to help boost shine and repair split ends.  I am always down for a little hair therapy.  My hair easily breaks and splits and I have yet to find a product that helps with this.  Do you ladies have any suggestions?

Juice Beauty - Oil Free Moisturizer
I guess they had some extras of this because I got the same exact tube in my Birchbox a couple of months ago!   I guess they forgot that they sent it to me already. Or maybe they wanted to be thoughtful and sent an extra one so I could offer it up as a blog giveaway (kidding).  Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the whole concept of Birchbox was to try different samples each month.

Wonderstruck Taylor Swift
Another perfume sample...really?  Can we please get a tad bit more creative, Birchbox friends?  If I want to try a new scent, I will pick up a sample when I am at Sephora or Ulta or from one of the perfume ladies that always try to shove them down my purse when I walk through a department store.  To me, this is just a filler for the box.

Dropps Laundry Detergent
Okay, last and definitely LEAST, I present to you this bag of complete and utter insult!! My mouth dropped to the floor when I saw this...freaking laundry detergent in my Birchbox.  This is exactly what I wanted to sample and pay a monthly $10 subscription for.  Seriously?  Why in the hell would Birchbox think that this okay? These Dropps officially sealed the deal to DROP my membership.

So, adios, Birchbox. After our four month relationship, I am giving my spot to someone on your waiting list.  I may regret it when I see the Gossip Girl box you are planning next month, but you really p*ssed me off with the detergent. I had to put my high heel down on this one.

For what it's worth, I will leave you with a bit of advice, if you are contemplating whether or not to sign up for Birchbox, I would choose the latter.

Cheers to spending $10 on something that doesn't involve laundry or stinky perfume samples.

My "Girls" Need Some Lifting

Warning
Today's post is about my boobs {did I just say boobs?}. If that makes you feel a little uncomfortable, then you may want to skip right on over to the next blog.  No hard feelings.  Promise!

Okay, thanks to those who are sticking around.

So, I have been a life long member of the I.B.T.C. (if you need a reminder of this acronym look it up here). As I am hitting my older wiser years, the "girls" have not been cooperating and it totally SUCKS!  In addition to becoming older wiser; having had a couple kids will aid to the issue at hand.  I mean, they've always been small, but at least they WERE spunky.  Now, they just lie there sleeping all of the time.  I'm like, "kids", time to wake up!! But, they don't seem to listen...typical!

I don't have the money nor the bravery to get them "fixed", so I am doing my best to make peace with them.  But, when warmer weather rolls around, the battle begins...it's my "girls" against the swimsuit.  And this battle is not a win-win situation.

So, I need the help and advice from my fellow I.B.T.C. members.  Are there any swimsuits out there that can help my "girls" out?  I feel like I have tried on ump-teen different styles and still no winner.  I get so frustrated this time of year. Swimsuit shopping is dreadful and somewhat depressing...especially because there are a gazillion cute ones hanging on the racks.  And let me just add, Pinterest doesn't help the situation...I think it's worse than the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Why can't we just Photoshop ourselves in real life?  I know, I sound super shallow, but I am pretty sure that we ALL feel this way sometimes and have our own insecurities...we are women for heaven's sake.

So, help a sister out!!  Where should I shop and what type will help make the "girls" a little more festive and fun? I need suggestions that won''t cost me just as much as having their spirits "lifted".  I am not asking for a miracle, just a little optical  illusion.

Cheers to some "uplifting" comments and suggestions!

Pleated Maxi, Please

First of all, I need to confess.  I sort of failed with the spending freeze, but before you start judging and shaking your head at me, I only technically spent $5.00 after I used my, ever so handy, store credit. I mean, if I can go 30 days and only be out five bucks, I consider that a ginormous success and plan to pat myself on the back.  Justification: This skirt is a versatile, staple item that I will wear for years to come.  Realization: We all know that I will NOT wear this for years to come, but I will definitely get $5.00 worth of wear out of it.  Whew, I feel better getting that off my chest.

I will say, that maxi skirts are one of my favorites right now.  Besides the fact that they are cute and comfy, they hide my prickly legs when I am too lazy to shave. Yes, I still shave my legs.  I haven't jumped on the laser hair removal bandwagon and I am okay with that.  Am I one of the last ladies standing that hasn't taken the laser plunge?  Please tell me there are some of you out there that still get a little stubble.

Cheers to confessions, hiding prickly legs and of course the trusty maxi skirt!

The Webster - Not Just A Dictionary

This might be old news and you may have already gotten wind about the next collaboration that Target has in store, but just in case, I will give you the scoop.  I don't want to leave a single sole in the dark.

Mark you calendars, set you alarms or tie a ribbon around your finger for May 6, 2012 for the unveiling of The Webster at Target.  It is co-created by The Webster store owner, Laure Heriad Dubreuil and from what I have seen thus far, this line has Jason Wu for Target beat by a long shot!  Think breezy Miami weather, coupled with banana leaf prints and a touch of surfer, beach flair.  Plus, the color palette involves all the shades we are craving this spring and summer season.

Prices will range from $7.99 to $49.99 and will be available at all Target stores.  In case your forgot, I was one of the crazies that got up early for the Jason Wu launch.  Well, my lady friends, the spokesperson for Target promises that they will be armed and ready this time around with merchandise being fully stocked both online and in stores.  Unlike the Missoni and Jason Wu debacles, The Webster debut shouldn't cause cat fights in the aisles, website crashes or camp outs in front of the store.  I think we can all have a piece of the pie this time.

Baby, kids and women's shoes will ONLY be available online.  Mark my words, my shopping freeze will be melted to the ground come May 6th and I will be scooping up the cap-toe melon wedges (see below).

Here are a few of my favorite pieces from The Webster line.  There are over 30 more fabulously delicious looks on Target's press room site {here}.  I just chose a handful that I plan to devour savor.

Thank you, once again Target, for putting a dent volcanic hole into my bank account.  At least I am keeping it in the family and graciously contributing toward my sister's retirement. Hey Stacy, if you are reading this, I know how giddy you get when I plug your employer on the blog!

Cheers to Target always coming through for a girl on a budget!
