Ski School

Plaid Blanket Scarf and Puffer Vest

The second half of our Tahoe trip consisted of freezing my face, toes and fingers off. There were times when I literally couldn't feel them. I thought my Hunter boots would keep me warm if I wore thick wool socks...wrong. They are ideal for the cold and rain, but not snow or 10 degree weather. I guess that's what happens when you haven't been in "real" snow in almost 20 years. Lesson learned for next time. Hand and feet warmers were my BFFs and luckily I brought plenty of other layers to drown out my numb limbs. It's ironic that my kids never once complained about being cold. Maybe it was because they were sweating it off on the slopes while I watched from the sidelines.

On Tuesday we had ski school at Northstar. The process of getting all the equipment, trying to walk gracefully in ski boots, haul our skis/poles around and ride the gondola up to the mountain in the FREEZING cold was WORK. With all the layering we had on, going to the restroom was WORK. And then there was the skiing part...more WORK...embarrassing, humiliating, frustrating, fall on your ass over and over, can't get back up, out of control, I can't make my legs do the pizza pie, I don't know how to stop myself....WORK.

Yep, I failed ski school and skiing in general. No, they didn't hand me a report card with a big fat F on it, but believe me if they did I would have received one. I tried. I really did, but after falling at least 100 times and taking out a sweet, innocent little girl, on the LITTLE DIPPER nonetheless, I called it quits for the rest of the trip. I wasn't meant for the slopes.

Ross and my girls killed it. They had a blast the rest of the day and the next. Ross moved onto a few blues and Logan and Landry nailed the greens. I became an official people watcher, cheerleader, photographer, cocktail drinker, find a fire, make friends with a few strangers Tahoe tourist.

The next day was more my speed, sitting my bottom safely in a tube and letting it do all the work down a mountain. We didn't get any pictures of said snow tubing at Squaw Valley because none of us could take our gloves off for more than 10 seconds to snap a pic. It was the coldest day of our trip and the winds were blistering. The memories of spinning down a hill will have to stay engrained in our minds forever.

This is the only group shot we got during our five day stay. It was the last day right before we left. I love this family and the time we shared in Tahoe. It was an incredible ending to an amazing year. We hope to go back again soon, maybe give skiing another whirl and build a snowman (we forgot this go-round). But, I am not going to lie, I would much rather be on a beach than in the snow. The beach equals easy. Easy equals relaxation. Relaxation equals vacation. Vacation equals not a lot thought or work. Can I get an amen?

P.S. This year I am going to share pictures and links to previous posts when I remix a piece in order to give you additional ideas on how to style a specific item that you might already own or are thinking of purchasing.
