Running in Circles

I wore this on Saturday while the temperatures were warm and sunny. By Sunday morning, I was wrapped tightly in my fluffy robe and scooting around the house in fuzzy slippers all day long. We went from glorious spring weather to freezing rain in less than 12 hours. I left the house once to get the mail (in my robe) and almost went stir crazy being cooped up indoors all day. Just as I organized my closet and moved all my sweaters to the tip top of my closet, Mother Nature decided to give us a little a surprise.

Forever 21 Dress (option here and here) // Forever 21 Chambray (option here and here) // Old Navy Utility Vest (option) // Target Flats (option here) // Forever 21 Stripe Bag // Kendra Scott Tassel Necklace // Love Always Bar Necklace c/o // T + J Designs Leopard Pony Hair Bangle c/o // Michael Kors Watch c/o The Jeweler's Wife // Lilac Bijoux Crown Ring c/o // Gigglosophy Heart Ring c/o // Forever 21 Mirrored Glasses (option)

Speaking of organizing closets, I added over two dozens items to Poshmark this weekend. I have a pile of things that I am still on the fence about selling/donating. Quite frankly, I am contemplating about removing some pieces that I already listed. I don't know why it's so hard for me to let go of clothes, ones that I haven't worn in months, even years. Maybe because one day I will wear them again, like this orange coat I have had since high school. Yes, HIGH SCHOOL.

When a piece of mine sells, I sometimes get a lump in my throat knowing that someone else wanted it. How will they style it? Could I have remixed it better? Did I get my money's worth when I did own it? Dangit, why did I just sell that dress, skirt, shirt, shoes, etc. They are clothes, Shanna. They are not some treasured antique or a family heirloom. Most of them of them have zero meaning. So why do I get so attached? Who knows. Maybe I need help or intervention.

For instance, the utility vest I am wearing in today's post came so close to being tossed in the Poshmark sell stack. It was hanging with all my other items that I listed, but for some reason I decided to keep it. At the last minute, before we were leaving the house, I layered it over my maxi dress and chambray. It ended up completing the style. Looks like I am keeping this one a little while longer.

It's a vicious circle. Is anyone else out there running in it with me? Please tell me I am not alone.

Shanna

Girl, I am right there with you. Every time I consider selling items, I end up justifying them and cramming them back into my closet. Because ONE day I MIGHT need that dress/sandal/jacket/orange vest I have never worn.

When you find the right therapy, send me an invitation ;)

Good call on keeping the vest. I have the same one and though I don't get much use out of it, I love that it's such a great layering piece.

I am not sentimental about my clothes but I tend to hold on to things forever. It seems the only time I ever purge my closet is when I lose / gain significant weight or move.

Yes I am with you! I just packed a bunch of my stuff in bags for a garage sale. I was in the basement Saturday thrifting thorough the bags and pulling things back out! My shopping budget has helped a little. I really need to focus on only buying pieces that I can wear several different ways and classic pieces. The other stuff usually goes into the garage sale bag(: Love this outfit and the bag! Happy Monday! susan

I don't have any sort of emotional attachment to my clothes, but I convince myself that I will still MAYBE wear something even though I haven't worn it in years! First think on my agenda this summer? CLEAN OUT MY CLOSET. I think I will end up donating at least 1/2 of it. Just think of all the room I will have when all of those unused items get out of my closet!!!!

Great maxi and fab spring layering! You got some freezing rain, but we got more snow! This winter had been crazy and I'm kinda over it.

I know the feeling about selling stuff. Its hard to see it go. But once you put it in the "sell" pile, you should let someone else enjoy it because you probably won't get the wear out of it anymore.

I have a hard time letting clothes go as well - I associate memories with them, and so even the ones with the most minute, little stories always feel so special and I feel like a traitor giving them away, haha!

I am falling hard for this outfit, I must mix my chambray with my maxis! And I feel your pain about cleaning out the closet. I feel like I don't always utilize my clothing as well as I should, then end up missing it when I get rid of things. I've been trying to turn my hangers backwards at the beginning of the year/season so I know that I haven't worn that article when I see the backward hanger. Then I can think about either remixing it or tossing it.

I used to have a really hard time letting go of clothes, even if I hadn't worn them in years. But now I realize they're just taking up space in my closet for things I do wear and it's easier to part with them.

I'm also soooo ready to break in my maxis until it rained on my parade all weekend....so I'm back to those boots & sweaters! Love how you styled this maxi to be spring friendly with those lovely layers...plus those mirrored sunnies nailed it all together!

I used to have the same problem...I didn't want to give anything in my closet away. Now, I have no hesitation! There is always something else out there that I will love. And I donate everything to Goodwill that way I don't have the hesitation of NOT selling it. I have donated three giant bags of clothes in the last two weeks. Including seven jeans (5 pairs) which I could have sold, but I didn't want the hesitation of saying "maybe I'll wear them again..."

XO!

PS: You know you can always send it to me...

You're so freakin' cute Shanna! LOVE that olive color on you! And um.. I'm awful about Poshmark. Someone asks me about an item and I totally blow if off.. idk what's wrong with me.. I mean I put it up there for a reason, right?! Maybe we should start a 'we need help getting rid of our clothes' group! ; )

I love this layered look. I get nervous every time I clean out my closet, too. I am so confident in my decision as I'm tossing items aside and then when I actually sell them or it comes to getting rid of them I almost change my mind!

I have the same problem! I keep finding random reasons why I must keep something that I know I haven't worn in forever. My latest reason is because my daughter might want it when she's older lol!

Love your look today! Great thinking of adding the utility vest over top of the chambray!

I love that vest!! Keep it. It seems very versatile and I like the color. I agree on letting clothes go. I list things on Poshmark and then remove them....and then end up re-listing them. Why is it so hard?

Setarra said...

I have a hard letting go of t-shirts... The corny ones that have the name of the event I went to to get it in the first place lol. Sentimental value is the toughest thing to get rid of sometimes lol.

I have finally sold a few items on Poshmark, and am actually getting the bug to try and sell more. It's nice having the extra cash. Unfortunately, I am so good at getting rid of the old that I can't find anything else in my closet that I don't wear. Maybe when spring finally arrives for good, I'll be able to part with some of my "unnecessary" winter items. :)

I'm so jealous you can wear a maxi- it's far too cold here (still!)

All That Glitters said...

First of all, I am SO annoyed that it's freezing again! Second, I get anxiety about giving things away too! Once it's in the goodwill pile I don't let myself go back through it. It's the ones I want to sell that I have issue actually selling lol!

I get attached to my clothes too. I've only sold some of my clothes once. I just can't get myself to go through my closet and get rid of stuff!
Love the layering in this outfit! I might wear something similar this week for a flight!

First of all, I love your layers! Such a cute look. Second, I am so sick of all of this winter weather. We had a beautiful weekend and then snow flurries today. And third, I have a really hard time getting rid of clothing too! I always think, "But what if I want to wear it one day???" I am terrible about cleaning out my closet!

Do not get rid of that vest!!! It was a good addition to an already adorable outfit. And I've seen you wear that vest with other outfits and it really adds some great texture. So I repeat, do not get rid of the vest. And I too struggle with getting rid of clothing. I know that I will easily replace them, but every time I clean out my closet and try on items I haven't worn in forever, I always question why I don't wear it or start thinking of outfits in which to wear these forgotten pieces. #firstworldproblems #thestruggleisreal
