A Texas Kind of Weekend

Hello again! I hope everyone had a great Saturday and Sunday and you are ready to start up another week.

Today is a little dose of what my weekend looked like and what you can expect if you ever decide to come visit me in Texas! Summers are the best time to make reservations, so start thinking about booking your flights for next year! The offer always stands. So here we go...

My big brother came into town to visit for a long weekend. That's him in the picture above. As I get older, I think we look more and more alike. What do you think? And that deliciousness in the bottom right, was some shrimp and swordfish kabobs that Ross cooked up for us Friday night. Yes, it tasted just as amazing as it looks in the picture.

Saturday we woke up early and drove down to Gruene to float the river. The bus driver that took us to our drop off said we only had to follow two rules to make it a great trip...see above. I am happy to report that we followed them perfectly. If you haven't ever floated a river in big black inner tube, you are missing out. It is seriously one of the most fun things to do during the summer. You pack as much alcohol as you can into a raft, tie it to the "lead" tuber of the group who likes to raft surf and move like Jagger and float for 5-6 solid hours. Oh, and you MUST make friends with total strangers that have waterproof radios and take Jell-O shots with them every hour or so. Then you stumble/crawl off the river and go eat as much Mexican food as you can. Sounds like the time of your life, right? It is!

Then after you float all day you do what any Texan does when in Gruene, you head to River Road Ice House and listen to one of the best Texas Country artists there is, Pat Green. Ross and I have been listening to him for years. In fact out first dance at our wedding was from Pat Green, "If I Had A Million". Look it up. Those who know me well, can tell you that I used to be a straight up Pat Green groupie and may or may not have snuck backstage a time or two. I kept myself under control this time...somewhat.

After all the hoop-la that took place on Saturday, I spent most of Sunday trying to get myself together. I swear, this old body of mine doesn't sync up with my young heart. I am sore in places I did not even know existed and have a few battle scars to show for it. The "day after" is so much harder now than it was back in my twenties. So to cure my our pain, we headed out for a relaxing evening on the lake, with yet again, some Mexican food. It does a body good. I am finally feeling like myself again and can't wait to do it again next year, when the big brother rolls back into town.

It was an epic weekend that I will be smiling and laughing about for weeks so come.

What were you guys up to over the weekend? Have any battle scars? Funny stories?
Anything that will keep you smiling for a few more days?

P.S. Jade with An Organized Mess is hosting a FAB group giveaway and I just might be giving away something of my own. Be sure to go over an enter.

Cheers to Texas summers!

Looks like such a fun weekend!! I agree with you about the body not being able to keep up with the heart. I experienced that this weekend too. I sure love Texas, I used to live in Houston and miss it!

Fun weekend girl! I bet I would have been burned horribly after that much time in the sun. I haven't been swimming in almost 5 years. Yikes.

This looks like such a fun weekend, Shanna! I don't think you can go wrong with any of these things. Although, I would definitely be struggling the next day too! It's amazing how your body just doesn't bounce back as fast as you get older :) I'm glad you're feeling better today! Have a good Monday!

I've heard of these infamous float trips and they always sound so fun! Looks like you had a great time. I went out Saturday night as well and did not bounce back yesterday like I used to. Boo.

I want to go on a floating adventure SO BADLY! There is one in Laughlin, NV but it's about 147 degrees and 20,000 people. Yours definitely sounds like the time of my life :-)

I LOVE Texas Country!! That was my favorite part about living there. Def the music! We try to go see any Texas Country artists that ever come to Georgia, and we saw Pat Green the last time he was here.
Looks like a blast!!!

I'm insanely jealous of your entire weekend! Floating the river AND Pat Green. It's almost too much ;)

Pat played at our company Christmas party a few years back and I was so close to him that his sweat was dripping onto me. I know it sounds kind of gross but since you are a reformed Pat groupie I'm sure you'll understand! :)
