Do You Give a Hoot?

Ever since the Anthropologie owl cookie jar made it's debut, it seems as though owl decor is popping up everywhere. I mean Target now has ceramic owl vases in their Dollar Spot for $2.50.
(I took a picture of them and posted on Instagram in case you want to take a peek.)

Back in my college days, buying an owl of any kind was a straight up "hell no" because of my sorority affiliation. I was supposed to buy nothing but turtles. I am a proud Delta Zeta from Texas State. Since college is a million miles away, I have started to take a liking to these little hoots.

I have been on a mission to spruce of some of my home decor and trying to decide if these are simply the latest trend in the design world or if owls are really here to stay. You see, I can put together outfits and know what staple pieces are for my wardrobe, but when it comes to decorating my house, quite frankly...I completely suck.

So, help me out here.

Do you think this is just a fad or should I throw a few of these in my shopping cart?
I must say, I have fallen in love with the door knobs in #4.

Tell me, do any of you own this Anthro cookie jar?
I have seen a ton of DIY recreations of it in blog land.

Have you hopped on this decor trend?  What are your thoughts?
I am counting on your advice and comments.

Cheers to hooters????

girl, I agree - the door knobs are very cool! but.. owls in general? They freak me out!! Lol

The owl trend is def here though, and I would prob go with the same motto I use with trendy clothing- indulge sparingly and cheaply. :)

I have been in love with that Anthro cookie jar since the first day I saw it! It's adorable! I do think the owl thing is just a fad, but that doesn't mean you can't incorporate it into your home decor. Just mix in a couple of budget friendly pieces that won't be hard to replace once owls aren't all the hype anymore :)

I firmly believe, decorate with what you love. Who cares about trends, I say! (btw, I need that lamp from jcpenney)

Do you read the Nester's blog? I adore her. I get a lot of inspiration from her.(http://www.thenester.com/)

I LOVE OWLS...ever since I learned that they can be super cute. And there's so much available with owls and all...but those cookie jars are adorable and at the same time too expensive. :( I don't know, but I don't want to spend that much on a cookie jar. Not sure why, really, even though it breaks my heart...haha. I love it. :D

That Pier 1 one is my favorite! It's so cute!

My goodness, this is too funny! I just did a post about how I broke down and bought something with anchors on it for the first time (which was a "hell no" for me in college, as was the owl, or any other sorority symbol other than my own - the giraffe.) Haha. My sister actually goes to Temple University now and their school mascot is the Owl so I can't help having taken more of a liking to them! (And they're just so cute!)

Kelly { MessyDirtyHair } said...

theyre adorable but i'd say its a fad...just dont over do it ya know!

I love the owls, my grandmother has been a collector forever so they've grown on me over the years and are so much cuter than the 70s/80s ones she has. Here's a cute one to give a try too: https://awomble.scentsy.us/Scentsy/Buy/ProductDetails/DSW-WHOO

*not spam (pinky promise) just a link to a cute Scentsy owl warmer

I don't know how I missed this post! I've been drooling over that owl cookie jar in Anthro for over a year and I own that Target lamp. I am definitely stopping by Pier One. The Scot might be a little annoyed because he's already told me to stop buying owls. "No one wants to go to the crazy owl lady's house." he says.
