Adios, Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme is Natural Wonders. It definitely made me wonder, "What in the world were they thinking?"  I am pretty positive you will wonder this yourself when you the last picture.

So, here is what came in my box this month:

 Zoya Nail Polish in Lotus
It's no secret that I love nail polish.  What girl doesn't?  My collection is pretty ridiculous and I have zero guilt about about adding to it.  Purple polish is not something I would pick up and buy, but I am up for trying new shades.

 Amika Obliphica Nourishing Mask
A conditioning mask that's supposed to help boost shine and repair split ends.  I am always down for a little hair therapy.  My hair easily breaks and splits and I have yet to find a product that helps with this.  Do you ladies have any suggestions?

Juice Beauty - Oil Free Moisturizer
I guess they had some extras of this because I got the same exact tube in my Birchbox a couple of months ago!   I guess they forgot that they sent it to me already. Or maybe they wanted to be thoughtful and sent an extra one so I could offer it up as a blog giveaway (kidding).  Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the whole concept of Birchbox was to try different samples each month.

Wonderstruck Taylor Swift
Another perfume sample...really?  Can we please get a tad bit more creative, Birchbox friends?  If I want to try a new scent, I will pick up a sample when I am at Sephora or Ulta or from one of the perfume ladies that always try to shove them down my purse when I walk through a department store.  To me, this is just a filler for the box.

Dropps Laundry Detergent
Okay, last and definitely LEAST, I present to you this bag of complete and utter insult!! My mouth dropped to the floor when I saw this...freaking laundry detergent in my Birchbox.  This is exactly what I wanted to sample and pay a monthly $10 subscription for.  Seriously?  Why in the hell would Birchbox think that this okay? These Dropps officially sealed the deal to DROP my membership.

So, adios, Birchbox. After our four month relationship, I am giving my spot to someone on your waiting list.  I may regret it when I see the Gossip Girl box you are planning next month, but you really p*ssed me off with the detergent. I had to put my high heel down on this one.

For what it's worth, I will leave you with a bit of advice, if you are contemplating whether or not to sign up for Birchbox, I would choose the latter.

Cheers to spending $10 on something that doesn't involve laundry or stinky perfume samples.

Today I am linking up with Fabulous but Evil
Check out what some of the other ladies got this month.

I've been on the waiting list but after seeing/posting about TestTube & what a bad run you've had... I'm staying away from BirchBox. Oh well! At least you tried it, right?? $10 back to your pocket for the next 8 months!

P.S. I just announced an awesome giveaway on the blog this morning & would love for you to enter!! :)

Oh man, I would be pissed if I got this box. Detergent?? And a duplicate sample? I'd probably get all crazy and email them about it! =/

We got the same box! Luckily, I have yet to get any of these samples so I liked mine...with an exception to the detergent of course! Why in the world would they think that was a good thing to add?

Kristin said...

Okay, so our boxes were great! BUT you were right, yours beat mine! Although the hair conditioner/mask seems interesting...that doesn't suffice for the laundry detergent! Debating to keep it going for 1 month (3rd times the charm?), or saying see ya later alligator! Decisions...

Since when is detergent a beauty item? I am also obsessed with Zoya nail polish. Their website is great and by liking them on Facebook you get notified about sales. I think in the last year I've gotten 3-4 free bottles of nail polish from them...of course I've also purchased 10.

I just got my first one this past weekend and other than a chapstick that I actually really love, it had the detergent, a Taylor Swift perfume sample, and packets of sunscreen. I'm going to give it another month or two before I pull the plug. Jealous you got nail polish though!

I am definitely in the minority. I LOVED getting the laundry detergent. It's the lifestyle extra, which so far has never been a beauty item (think: free download from GRO, coupon to an online party dress store). I love these "extras"!
Sorry you didn't like your box :(

you really didn't like this box?! i got the EXACT same box and it was one of my favorites!

You put that heel down! ;)
Have a wonderful week love!

My understand was that they were going to be adding a "lifestyle" products each month. last month I received a hair tie that was amazing. This is only my second month and I got the same box. Sorry that you are leaving:(

I've been thinking about signing up, so I'm very glad I read this. I will definitely pass on paying $10/month to receive detergent samples. No thank you!

BronsonBloopers said...

Oh man, that would make me upset a little too. Especially with the double sample and laundry stuff. Where is the make up and lipsticks right? I wonder how they pick out everything.

Yikes, I wouldn't want the laundry detergent either! I think dropping the Birchbox was a good idea...spend that $10 on something you really love!

I'm sorry. What a bummer. I paid for the year up front so I won't be cacelling but I would probably complain if I got detergent. Happy Monday!

Wow!

My box this month was awesome! I even went online to order some of the products I received in full size. Sorry you got a few bad boxes :(

Lindsay said...

I was thinking about signing up for this. Might have to rethink it!

Emily said...

Don't worry...even with the laundry detergent your box beats mine! I didn't even receive any nail polish, got another perfume, and herbal tea. I was very disappointed this month and if the boxes do not improve I am also considering cancelling!

I was asking on twitter recently if I needed to sign up since they finally sent me the "email" but I had decided not to with all the feedback I got. Seems those who "love" it, really just love increasing the sales for BB so they get perks.
I can get way better things for $10 then I think BB can give

Thanks for this post!

I get bad boxes, but then they make up for it the next month. I was kind of disappointed in my box this month but I assume Gossip Girl is going to be faboosh. Sorry you were not happy with BB! IMHO its much better than most of the subby services! I have tried a few and blahhh...this was the best.

Oh nooo! I have to say I'd be pretty P.O.ed if I got laundry detergent too... that's ridiculous. My birhbox was good minus the fact that the lotion was expired...from 2010 o___O luckily, they are rewarding those who got the bad lotion 100 points.

You know I got the same Birchbox and I cancelled yesterday. Maybe I'll resubscribe later on. I'm sorry that you did not like it.

I cancelled mine in December after only a month. I heard this month's box had expired products in it too. Seriously?

Detergent? Seriously? At least you got a couple nail polished out of it!

Oh wow, yea the detergent would have pissed me off. You can get a sample of that for free from Tide, Gain, etc, lol. Mine was pretty good this month. I got an eye cream that I love and will probably order, but I do like your nail polish. I'm surprised this month at the variety in all the BBs I've seen on reviews.

Cami said...

Sooo crazy!! Detergent is SO random. I wonder what BB has to say - if they read this? I love your review :)
How do you know about the BB next month? Someone else mentioned that, too..but I don't think I got the memo LOL

I don't have birchbox for this reason. I've been seeing a lot of customers complain lately of the samples they've been recieving and i don't see how it justifies spending $10/month on crappy samples. I don't blame you for canceling your membership, that shit cray.

Emma said...

I cancelled mine a couple months ago because of this exact reason and don't regret it one bit! Glad I had it for a bit as I loved the "surprise" I got in each box on my doorstep every month, but overall have used my 10 dollars elsewhere :)

Danielle said...

My box absolutely sucked too. I'm sticking out for next month for Gossip Girl but then that's it. I can't believe Birchbox has resorted to such awful samples. I signed up to receive high-end make up samples, not crap.

Erica said...

Ha! I cancelled mine after 4 months as well. I just didn't think it was worth my $10!
