Fall Details

French Connection Fall Floral Skirt

I have said it before and I will say it again, dressing for early fall is hard. September and October are probably the worst months, for me personally, when it comes to figuring out what to wear. The temperatures this week are in the low 90's, but it's OCTOBER!!! I know, welcome to Texas.

Anyway, I have slowly started to learn how to incorporate pieces that are appropriate for the season without feeling as though I am sitting in a sauna. Yes, I love the summer months, but I also want to embrace the current season...especially when it comes to clothing. I am over tank tops and shorts.

I picked out a French Connection pencil skirt, ankle strap heels and tote with tweed accents several months ago when I attended a conference. All three pieces have rescued me from my seasonal slump. They have the perfect amount of style, texture, color and pattern character to say, "Hey, Fall, you ARE actually here". The best part? They can slide perfectly into the winter and spring categories too.

Right now, French Connection is offering 25% off all full priced items right now. Use the code PSWW14 at checkout.

Anyone else itching to pull out all your scarves, riding boots, sweaters, jackets and everything else that can be layered? I know it will be here sooner than later, but patience has never been my strong suit.

On a completely random note, did anyone see Gone Girl this weekend? We were running crazy and didn't have the chance, but I am keeping my fingers crossed we can catch it this weekend. My mom and sister went yesterday. They said it's soooooo good and just like the book. Dying to go...maybe I will just hit a matinee by myself today. Ha! There goes my impatient brain getting the best of me again.

Tell me about it - it's been a challenge dressing up at this time of the year! But you did a great job with this ensemble - the skirt is so lovely & those shoes are killer! Why don't you share this look at the TREND SPIN-FOOTWEAR linkup I'm co-hosting with Laura & Erin this week - hope to see your pretty face there!

Ugh! As much as I say I'd love a warmer climate, I think I'd cry if it was 90 degrees in October. I do like my seasons. :-) You're doing a great job of dressing for the in-between. Love that skirt.

NC gave us a little tease last week with a taste of fall. This week the mornings are fall, and the afternoons are summer. And with Gone Girl...I was so scared by the first part of the book, I couldn't even handle the whole thing (and I'm thinking probably not the movie either). My friend saw it, though, and said it was really well done and did the book justice...I'm sure you'll love it if you liked the book!

I agree that fall is hard to dress for. It's freezing in the mornings and then you wonder why you dressed so warmly by midday. I've been eyeing dark colored floral skirts and this one looks amazing on you. I'm definitely hopping over to FC to take a look. Love those shoes! I'm a big fan of block heels. Have a great week! ~Cynthia

I love your purse and skirt. Your purse is definitely on my shopping list. I love the price point as well. So perfect. I feel your pain on trying to figure out what to wear when it's in the 90's here as well. :)

I saw Gone Girl last night, I absolutely loved it. Three big differences in the book and movie that I could see, but none were harmful to the movie.

Love your skirt!

I would definitely say the hot weather would make dressing for fall hard. It's just started to cool down a bit here, but is still 75 ish in the afternoon. I'll take the warm while I can! You look great here, I adore this skirt!

I can't believe how hot it is there!!!! I can see why you are struggling, but this outfit is totally adorable - I cannot get enough of those shoes!!

I totally feel you on this one! It's been in the 90's here in NorCal (it was even over 100 yesterday where my family lives) and I am so over the heat! I don't even want to get dressed because I am so over shorts and tanks and all I want to wear is Fall clothes. This is such a difficult time to get dressed! Maybe I just need to steal this outfit from you because it's appropriate for the heat but still looks like Fall! Love it!

P.S. I want to see Gone Girl too! But I'm afraid I'll be too scared. lol.

Even here in the NW it's tricky in Sept/October. Rainy season is unpredictable. Right now it's still in the mid 70's I constantly find myself taking off layers lol. Love French Connection and you look amazing in your outfit-beautiful skirt!!
I've read Gone Girl. I loved the story had mixed feelings for the ending. The movie I won't miss though. Can't hear what you think of it as it sounds like you may see it before me :)) Have a wonderful rest of the wee Shanna! XOXO, Elif

Love your bag! It is hard to dress here right now, too! It is currently 70 degrees here... and I want to bust out my fall pieces so badly! I know it will be cold forever once it turns cold, so I am trying to not be too impatient haha!

I love this look on you, but most likely because I am an abuser of the pencil skirt. Whenever I can't figure out what to wear, I go straight for a pencil skirt. I literally have one in every color, and in a multitude of fabrics. Thicker ones for winter, and thinner, breathable ones for the summer.

I saw Gone Girl! Your mom and sister are right, it was so good and just like the book, you have to see it soon! You always have great outfits, this one is no exception, the colors in the skirt give it a fall vibe while keeping you cool.

I so adore all of the pieces in this outfit, and September/October are hard months here as well, you do not want to give up summer ( although fall fashions are calling) Coulr be freezing in the morning and hot in the afternoon ( not as hot as there LOL).
I have been dressing fall like all week and now planning a Pool event for the weekend for Thanksgiving, talk about conflicted. It is a great outfit though

Can I please just copy & paste this whole outfit into the work wardrobe I'm trying to accumulate for next year? It is all kinds of perfection!!

I guess I should read the book before I go to see Gone Girl? Decisions, decisions haha. I'm so behind on book reading! Love your floral skirt!

I totally know how you feel about dressing right now. Ughh it is so frustrating. It is almost mid October and it was in the high 80s today. I make my fall transition a super slow one!
Also, if only you lived closer, I would totally go see Gone Girl with you!! I am dying to see it, and I know my husband won't want to go. So I may be in the theater alone too. I have heard it is SO good.

OMG those shoes!!! I'm so obsessed! And I hear you about having a hard time figuring out what to wear! Although it's not anywhere near the 90s here in Boston, it's much colder in the mornings and evenings and somewhat warm throughout the day - so layers have been key for me lately! I love this outfit!
