Back Home

This weekend we made a road trip back "home" to Alvin to visit my parents. I have only gotten to see my mom once since her neck surgery and was itching to revisit her again. She has been such a trooper and come a long way in a few short weeks. She is finally starting to get out of the house, move her arms and do more for herself. We had a family pool day at my sister's house on Saturday and it was so great to see her laugh and smile again. It was food for the soul...for all of us.

Dress c/o Mays Street Boutique // Express Crossbody (option here and here) // Charlotte Russe Ankle Boots (option here and here) // Kendra Scott Cuff c/o The Jeweler's Wife // Wrenn Jewelry Rings c/o // Gorjana Ring c/o // Kendra Scott Feather Earrings (old: option here and here) // La Mer Watch c/o (option here)

Sunday Ross and I drove around our old stomping grounds to find a location to shoot this fun boho inspired dress I picked up from a friend's local boutique. More on that in a minute. We randomly came across this vacant building that sits along side the railroad tracks. I was so excited when we walked around back and discovered the window etching on the doors. This is where I grew up and spent 18 years of my life. My roots, so to speak. To see the name of the town where I grew up in the photos just makes me smile. It may not be the fanciest city on the map and hasn't grown much since we left, if any, but it will always be the place we call "home".

A close friend of ours has the cutest boutique in Round Rock called Mays Street Boutique. She began her business with a home decor focus, but recently broadened her offerings to clothes as well. I grabbed this dress late last week and if you love it as much as I do, be sure to give her a call and tell her I sent you (512-248-2555). They will take payment over the phone and ship to U.S. residents. They only carry a few sizes in each piece. I am wearing a small for your reference. This is a great dress for the upcoming season. I plan on wearing it again with riding boots and a denim jacket.

If you are local, be sure to stop in her shop. She has a fab selection of Kendra Scott pieces and will soon be carrying Alex and Ani bracelets. Plus, her home and patio decor are to die for!

You can stay up to date with her inventory and special promotions by liking Mays Street Boutique's Facebook page. Gotta love supporting local businesses owned by women. Happy shopping!

I am so happy to hear that your mom is on the mend. Spinal issues are so scary and can be super painful. I am glad she is feeling better! I have a purse similar to this and I have carried it all summer - Mod Cloth I think. It goes with everything! Love the dress! Have a blessed week! Susan

I always think it's so fun to return home and "see" things that you've never seen before.. even if you did live there your whole life!

This is such a sweet dress and looks AMAZING against the facades of these buildings!

Shanna- As always, you knocked it out of the park with this look! How cool you went back to your hometown, your "roots." Although sometimes I hate thinking of bad memories of my hometown, our roots are what have made us who we are today. I have many good memories too! Thankful for roots! xoShannon

Love the dress! You paired it with the perfect accessories and booties:) Can't wait to see how you style it for the Fall. In addition to riding boots and a jean jacket, I imagine it pairing nicely with some cowboy boots and a cute moto leather jacket:) Sounds like you and your family made some very previous memories with your mom this weekend...great to hear!

I'm from right around that area as well, and I know the feeling that hits you when you step foot back home. You can travel the world, go as far as your feet (and modern transportation) can take you... but at the end of the day, all that does is make you love where you're from all the more deeply. Cuuuute outfit - so perfectly Texan :)
