Checks and Wine

Tony Lama Latigo Tucson Cowgirl Boots

This past weekend sixteen of us headed to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to a town called Grapevine for our 2nd Annual GrapeFest Girls Weekend. The festival is a three day event filled with vendors, food, music, carnival rides and of course wine. Thankfully the weather was much different for us this year. Fall arrived just in time and we didn't have to melt from the blazing heat like we did last year. Let me tell you, it was like Mother Nature flew down from the sky and graced us with an almost forgotten chill.

I wore this heavier cotton buffalo check drop waist dress from Old Navy and my cowgirl boots for our first afternoon out. It is so comfortable, doesn't wrinkle and is a perfect print for fall and winter. I think it will be fun with my riding boots and a tan blazer for a more classic style. I also plan to wear it with tights, ankle boots and my denim jacket. It is a Refinery 29 Top Pick and I have a feeling it might not last long.

If you live in Texas, you really need to mark your calendar for GrapeFest next year. Plan yourself a girls trip or a romantic getaway. We stayed at The Gaylord Texan. This resort is a vacation in itself. We also did a few other fun excursions, so if you want to make plans to go next year, shoot me an email or leave me a comment. I am happy to help answer any questions. I cannot take credit for all the planning though, my friend was rock star and set up our entire trip. I can however, pass the detailed daily itinerary she made for us onto anyone who is interested. Cheers!

Swayed by Stripes

stripe dress with leather pockets

Yep, a stripe dress twice this week. I can't even apologize for it. What can I say? Stripes for the win is all I got. In my opinion, they provide the perfect blank canvas for so many styling options and have many fashion faces; classic, preppy, chic, edgy and even glamorous. I am sure I left off a million other adjectives that describe this pattern we all seem addicted to. They can do no wrong when it comes to clothing.

This Ruche dress was another Labor Day purchase. I saw a similar one at J.Crew Factory, but once I finally decided to pull the checkout trigger, it was gone. So when I saw this one online, I added it to my basket immediately. It's another early fall staple that is helping to ease me into the seasonal transition.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am off to join my neighborhood girlfriends for our 2nd annual wine festival trip. Grape stomping here we come!

Random Stripes

Black and Tan Stripe Dress from Old Navy Fall Outfit Idea

I got this Old Navy stripe dress during the Labor Day sales. Obviously, it didn't take me long to wear it. A few of my girlfriends and I headed to dinner Saturday night for a pre-baby shower celebration. It has the perfect amount of room and I knew I would be able to indulge in three different appetizers, a main course, dessert and a couple of cocktails in between without having to suck in. Can I get an amen?

Unfortunately, this exact dress sold out rather quickly; possibly because it was a Refinery 29 Top Pick. They do have a few other colors still available. I highly recommend getting one for yourself, especially since everything at Old Navy is 30% off online right now (sale ends today). It's one of those pieces that isn't too heavy or light in fabric and can be layered for the upcoming cooler months. I plan on adding a blazer or denim jacket with my riding boots when we start to actually see fall weather around these parts. The Weather Channel app is telling me it's coming to visit on Saturday. Can I get another amen?

And since I haven't  been "random" in I don't know how long, here are a few:

1. I scored these Pottery Barn Seagrass chairs for my kitchen for an almost unbelievable price at their outlet store. I got three for less than the price of one. I need one more and waiting on them to get the fourth one in. Persistence, patience and willing to drive two hours round trip paid off.

2. I am so excited for Gone Girl to open next month. I knew they were making a movie, but had no idea it was coming out so soon. That book was all sorts of messed up...especially the ending, but I am dying to see it. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. A friend of mine told me that there is a plot twist and possibly a completely different ending than in the book.

3. I am half way through my Invisalign treatment. I have thirty trays total and am on the sixteenth. Ahem, another amen? So far, I have been pleased. I can actually see a difference in my teeth. It's small, but I can see it. Even some of my friends and family have noticed the change. I am praying this one tooth that has been a thorn in my side will straighten after it's all said and done. And no, I don't keep "my teeth" (that's what I call them) in for blog pictures.  Luckily, it's been a pretty easy and painless process, except for the fact that I have to take them out every time I want to eat and I can't chew gum...I miss my Juicy Fruit & Big Red.

4. One last thing, I am over at Lauren's blog, Fizz & Frosting, recapping some of my favorite looks that have been great for the end of summer and styles that will also work for early fall. She is busy being a new mommy. I was happy to help her out while she is enjoying her new baby girl.
