Nice 80's Outfit...

Dress:Target / Belt:Another Skirt / Sandals:Payless / Earrings:Forever 21 / Bracelets:Francesca's & Forever 21

I wore this outfit to our crawfish boil on Saturday and this was the comment I received from one of the gents, "Nice, 80's outfit. I didn't know it was a costume party". Funny guy, right?

I am pretty positive that most men don't get the neon trend or have a clue about color blocking or the mint craze or accent nail polish, but do "we" honestly dress for "them" anyway?  I say not. We all know that for the most part, women dress to impress other women.  I mean we are the ones that compliment each another.  I don't hear my dude friends walking up to me saying, "Love those wedges. Where are they from?" or "Your statement necklace is so pretty? Can I borrow it?"

Do you agree?

Eighties style or not, I really do hope the neon colors stick around awhile. If they don't, oh well, at least I will have plenty of options for future costume parties.

In case you were wondering, the crawfish boil was a huge success.  We were so blessed to have had so many good friends and family attend.  The food was amazing, the weather was perfect, lots of laughs were had and plenty of memories were made.

Cheers to making it a great week!

Today I am linking up with these fine ladies!

Bold Blazer and Best Friends

About four months ago some of my best friends from high school and I planned a weekend at the coast.  It seemed like our much needed reunion would never get here.  Finally, last weekend all our plans and countless back-and-forth emails became reality.   I haven't seen some of these pretty ladies in years, so of course we were acting like giddy school girls heading to the prom.   We had enough not-so-healthy food and cocktails to last us a month...perfect way start to kick off the weekend...not to mention we could see the ocean from our seaside cottage.

Sounds like the perfect weekend, right?  Well, coincidentally the company I work for had a state wide convention in the same city, on the same weekend.  How does that happen?  So, guess what?  Yes, you are correct, I had to make an appearance for a few hours while my lady friends sipped on mimosas and munched on {fattening} breakfast casseroles.  Not fair!!  Actually, it wasn't too bad, I got to hear some amazing speakers and actually learned a thing or too.  A few hours later I was back in the saddle with my girls.  Surf's up!

Before I changed into my beach bum clothes, I had my sweet friend Jenny snap a few pictures of me in my company convention attire.

I paired my dark skinny jeans with a bold blazer and mint colored accessories. This look is timeless and classic.  Every girl needs a solid color blazer in their wardrobe.
Orange and mint seem to be filling up my closet lately.
It was so perfect outside that I decided to stop and smell the flowers!
{I know, these flowers don't have a scent, just thought it sounded good}
Bird's Eye View - Actually, there were seagulls flying around!

I felt obliged to post a "then and now" picture of us girls.  I think we look better now than we did back then {I won't mention the year of 'then'}!  I love those girls more now than I did before!

Don't forget to get your entries in for my Stila Cosmetics Giveaway.  The winner will be announced February 5th.

Cheers to life long friends and a bold blazer!

2012 Spring Fashion Trend - #1 Color Blocking

Let's kick off the Top 10 Trends for Spring 2012 with Color Blocking! Ready, set, go...this trend made it's way into our closets in 2011, and it is not going anywhere in 2012. Some of you may be asking yourself, what exactly is "color blocking". So, here’s my little rundown...

Color blocking is just that, wearing blocks of colors. For the most part this is what we do when we get dressed each day, but Spring 2012 “color blocking” is somewhat exaggerated. To get the look you want to go for bright and bold colors. There are some rules to follow, however, and here they are:

LOUDER THE BETTER: If there has never been a time to wear loud pops of color, like Pepto pink, it’s now. You can show off colors in subtle ways with belts, shoes and other accessories. Take advantage of the opportunity to be loud for no reason and still be stunningly fab!

DON'T BE SCARED: We’re so used to the same coordinating colors...try mixing pink and red. Try orange and green. If you’re hesitant, you can always stick to the old faithful color wheel (see below). You can't mess up when using the wheel!

K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple Sister! This look works best with simple, neutral accessories. Metallic shades are a great compliment to color blocking. Just don't go overboard.

THREE'S COMPANY: Stick to 2 or 3 colors max. Any more than that and you may start to look like Rainbow Bright, and she's only allowed in Halloween costumes .

If you are ever in doubt, you can always use the old trusty color wheel. Just draw a line straight through the middle of the wheel from one side to the other. This is how you identify which colors traditionally compliment each other.

If you are a little unsure about color blocking tops and bottoms together by your lonesome, you can go to just about any store and pick up a dress that looks as though it's a separate top and bottom. I have purchased a few myself from Francesca's and Forever 21.

Here are a few color block dresses I have purchased.

Forever 21 - Romantic neutrals ideal  for weddings
Francesca's - Navy Blue & Orange - Add a little brown belt and riding boots

Francesca's - Gold & Black makes for great work wear
Forever 21 - Copper and Deep Purple perfect for an evening out
