Twinkies

White off the shoulder dress

I have to brag on my friends for a minute. I am buddies with some of the most stylish ladies on the face of the planet. One of my best friends wore this dress from Beehive a couple of weekends ago. I just about died when she walked out of her room. Not only is she one of the most adorable pregnant women, she also has a knack for finding the best non-maternity pieces that we all can wear. The minute I laid eyes on her dress, I knew I had to shop off of her. We are equally guilty of becoming carbon copies of one another and have been doing it for years. I don't see us changing our ways anytime soon. We just make sure to text each other our planned outfits when we go out together. We've ended up being Twinkies only once. I'd say that's a pretty good record considering our friendship is seventeen years strong.

If you live in the Austin or Ft. Worth areas, I highly recommend popping into Beehive. This boutique is a hidden gem and I am kicking myself for not discovering it sooner. If you live out of town, don't fret, they also have an online storefront full of fun and adorable finds. Happy shopping!

Good Intentions

I think I may have jinxed myself...in a good way. Earlier this week I was complaining how it was too hot to layer clothes and that the summer heat was taking it's toll when it came to getting dressed. Well hello, overcast skies, breezy winds, walking down park trails without sweating and a spring-like evening at the end of June. We will take it.

Yesterday, we spent an hour or so at the park, one of my favorites in the area. The girls were itching to run wild, our dog deserved a break from the backyard and we all needed a dose of fresh wildflowers and scenic lake views. This is just another reason I live for summer nights; no homework, schedules, tardy bells and the sun doesn't set until almost nine o'clock.

I picked up this dress from Old Navy during their summer dress sale with the intention of wearing it for our planned July 4th festivities. Well, if you are anything like me, you know how hard it is to save something new that is scheduled a week away. Let's just go with celebrating our tried and true red, white and blue early. It's better than being late, right?

Below are a few other pieces that I wouldn't mind slipping on next week for Independence Day, but let's be honest, I think I did enough damage last weekend when Ross and the girls were out of town. In my defense, the dress is the only thing new, on sale and supports next week's holiday.

Going Bananas

Last season J.Crew had this graphic printed tank of a bunch of bananas. I wanted and loved it, but couldn't bring myself to pay the "J.Crew" price for a simple summer tee. Last weekend, when I was flying solo, I popped into J.Crew Factory and there it was, on a table, folded neatly, 40% off and one left in my size. Score.

That's the beauty of J.Crew, most of my favorites always make their way to the factory store for a fraction of the original retail price. Typically I am not a patient person, but sometimes it pays off to cool my jets and tap my toes for a few months.

Plus, with a name like Shanna (aka Shanna Banana) this shirt and I were kind of meant to be together. Don't you think?

On another note, please remind me not to wear or post a denim jacket again on this blog until September. If I do, call me out on it. It is too dang hot to think it's okay to layer anything when it comes clothes. Unless it's raining or we get some sort of crazy "cool" front, meaning 80 degrees, you will not see this one again until the fall. Gotta love summers in Texas.

Flying Solo

This past weekend was odd because I flew solo, away from my family. Each one of us went our separate ways. Husband went fishing. Oldest went on a mini-vacation with her best friend. Youngest was pumped to play BIG cousin with family. I kept myself busy by having dinner with college friends (sisters), catching up on laundry, dabbling in online shopping (I know, went against what I said on Friday), sleeping in and cleaning up an eerily quite house. It was nice and peaceful, but I was ready for the chaos to come home by Sunday afternoon. As I am typing, all is back to normal in my household and there isn't any better way to spend the evening. Having a little time apart every now and then is healthy in my book. As they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder. I actually missed hearing little voices shout, "Mooooooooom!!!" every ten minutes.

SHOP THE LOOK

I picked up these J.Crew Factory floral, tropical shorts on super sale (the sales ends tonight). Yes, the print was what got my attention, but their length sealed the deal when it came to making the final purchase. They are 5" in length which can be difficult to find...especially in cute, non-frumpy patterns. I also bought this print a few weeks ago in the same cut and style and wore them in this post. The quality it typical J.Crew, AMAZING, and the fit is true to size.

HUGE NEWS: I was flipping through my People Style Watch magazine and came across a deal that I had to share. You ladies know how obsessed I am with Kendra Scott Rayne tassel necklaces. I own four and want more. They normally run $80 no matter where you purchase. Well, I found a 20% off code in my magazine. This will save you almost $20. So, if you have been on the fence about purchasing one, now is the time. Use the code rayne20 at checkout. They come in over twenty different colors. I seriously wear one at least four days a week.

Happy Monday and shopping! xoxo

Rummaging & Remixing

Bright Pink Pleated Maxi Skirt

I haven't had much time to shop lately nor have I had the desire to do so. My closet got cleaned out a few weeks ago and during the purging party, I realized, once again, that I really need to shop my closet more. I used to be pretty good at this, but feel as though I have strayed away from getting creative with pieces I already have hanging.

Honestly, if I don't have at least one new item to share I don't want to about blog it. What's wrong with me? I guess it's called style blogger-itis. It's time to make some changes. Don't get me wrong, I love to shop most of the time and add new pieces to my wardrobe, but I also need to come back down from the clouds and realize that I have plenty to play and work with.

SHOP THE LOOK

I wore this sequin crop top to a more casual gala a few months back and the pink pleated maxi skirt during a weekend family outing. I love both pieces and wanted to figure out a way to incorporate them together to create a fun daytime look. I grabbed my polka dot scarf from Forever 21 and tied it around my waist to break up the two solid pieces. I haven't done this before, but was please how it turned out. Now I know that I can wear sequins during daylight hours and get a way with it.

Punch of Pow

Embellished pieces add a fun punch of  "pow" to any outfit. To keep from looking "blinged" out, I typically only wear one item that has stud, bead or rhinestone detailing, but I couldn't help myself by pairing this top with my studded sandals. I feel like the two were meant to be worn together.

Studded Sandals

Unfortunately both the top and sandals are sold out, BUT if you want to add either item to your closet, keep a close eye out on Forever 21 and Chicwish. Both sites are pretty good about restocking items that sell out fast.

In the meantime, I did find a few alternative options in case you are interested.

P.S. You guys, we have been so busy this summer with camps, traveling, family time and NBA playoffs (GO SPURS!!). I promise to be more active with my post content, blog reading and social media interaction once the summer months are over. Consider the next few weeks summer style inspiration from me to you. I am really trying to enjoy this time with my girls, traveling on the weekends, day time excursions and to not stress myself out because I am not in front of the computer like I am when they are in school. Hang in there with me as I am trying to hang on as well! If only I could magically create 8 more hours in a day during June-August. xoxo
