Girlfriend Land

I like to keep things real on this blog because one day, I will look back at my posts and say, "This blog was originally started by me for me."

Soooooo, this post is kinda, sorta for me. To remember this ah-hah moment in my life.

I am a real person, dealing with a real life, a real marriage, real kids and real routines. I also cope with real crappy days even though they may seem like GREAT days to someone else. They are still MY "crappy" days. Call me selfish, spoiled, unappreciative, greedy or self loathing. I probably would do the same thing if I were in your shoes, but I am not.

Sometimes I take for granted all the magical things God granted and blessed me with, but I am a REAL person and have my faults.

Don't get me wrong...I love my family and I love my life, but sometimes it's nice to escape to "girlfriend land" and pretend nothing exists but laughter, Mexican martinis, lake view sunsets and a little catching up. And that my friends, is what I did last night....escaped to the world of "girlfriend land". It was nice. Really nice.

I mean who wouldn't want to escape to views like this.

And drinks like this.

And gorgeous friends like this (minus iPhone alien eyes)

It was just what I needed. I think all of us that were there needed it. We sat there chatting about endless topics that made us laugh, made us think and made us feel part of something...a group of women who can lean on each other no matter where we are in life.

It just feels good to be able to be myself around a group of girls that have known me for years, that honestly care, genuinely listen, actually respond to what I have to say and like/love me for who I truly am. That is hard to find these days. Its' so easy to get caught up in a clique of women just to be part of a "group". I am slowly starting to learn that quality prevails over quantity.  I guess you could say I am getting wiser in my older years. Wow, I have I just turned into my mother? If so, I will take it with honor!

Link
So, thank you to all my girls who have stuck by me through thick and thin, who do not judge me, who call to just catch up and who actually care about what I am doing. You know who you are. And to my blog friends whom I have never met, you brighten my day...every day and as much as it is a huge commitment to be a blogger, I wouldn't take it back for anything. There are so many that I have NEVER met in real life, but have all of a sudden consider my closest friends.  Again, you know who you are!

What a nice escape! That quote is so true. I still hang out with a few girls who I've known since I was six, and it's always so fun when we get together! Those special friendships are precious. :)

I don't think your selfish at all! Everyone has to have a break once in a while or they will hit their breaking point! Looks like you had a fabulous time!

GNO = Mandatory. You are not being selfish, self loathing, blah blah blah. All homegirls need them. Otherwise we would go insane... which reminds me, I gotta schedule one SOON!

Such a great post Shanna! I think I forget these same things at times and desperately need a girls weekend! It is always so hard to find time to escape at times from the craziness of life!! What an amazing view, night and most importantly group of friends! I love you & your "realness"!!!! Have a wonderful Thursday friend!

Catching up with friends is the best. Girls night always seems to come at the right time. I definitely agree that quality is better than quantity. And that view is amazingggg. Love you!

There is nothing like good quality girlfriends time and we all need to have those every once in awhile to stay sane. You're not selfish, you're human. I feel the same way all the time. Life gets stressful and it's nice to just escape for a minute! :)

chica, I loved every word of this. I agree 110% ~ all is relative in life. My sorrows may not be as big as yours, but they are still mine. So well said.

I'm so glad you got to get away with your girls!! XO

Looks and sounds like a much needed, fabulous evening! :) When it comes to people in our lives, it truly is quality over quantity. Sometimes it takes years of experience to figure that one out (been there) :)

I LOVE this! I think having a great group of girlfriends is SO important. A husband (although wonderful to have) can't fulfill that part of a relationship!

The last quote is something I have had to learn recently.

It's so important to have girls' nights. SO important. Glad you were able to getaway and be with your lady friends!!

Amen to girlfriends!!! I don’t know what I would do without my girlfriends... no matter what I am dealing with whether it be work, an altercation with someone, or getting rip in my tights - nothing is better than venting to a girlfriend over a cocktail.

There is nothing better than girls night and wine (or vodka, or sangria, or margaritas). Okay fine. Girls night and alcohol. Now only if my friends would stop getting pregnant so they could drink alcohol during girls night we'd be good to go!

I'm so glad that you go to have some time away with your friends - we all need that sometimes!

It's rare that I get to do that, but when I do, I savor every moment!

Hugs to you!

I completely agree!! I'm actually 5 minutes away from heading out for a ladies night escape - fondue with some of my favorite girls!! We all need it sometime. :)

Love the quote at the end. Too bad someone couldn't teach that to us earlier in life. It would have saved a lot of heartbreak. :) I REALLY appreciate my true friends. Glad to hear you had a great night. And that view? Wow!

What a beautiful and true post. Especially the end, the quality over quantity, is a lesson I have learned over the past two years since moving to LA.

I found your blog on Erin's bloggy and I couldn't have come to a better post! I am glad you had a great time with your girlfriends!

This post totally hits home for me!!! It's like you wrote out my exact thoughts...

I can't tell you how touching it is to see that I'm not alone with how I'm feeling, that others go thru this same stuff.

Thank you for sharing! I just think you're a doll! ;)
