Everything's Coming Up Roses

Happy Good Friday!

The title of this post is not an understatement in my world backyard.  We have the most amazing, sweet smelling, bold colored roses blooming up in our yard.

I was able to snip off several this week and there are so many more that will be ready in a few days.  I am not a gardener or have anything resembling a green thumb...believe me!  The rose beds were planted long before our time!  We inherited them when we bought our house.  Luckily, they do not require much maintenance.  We just water and they do their thing!  That's my kind of gardening!!

So, today's outfit inspiration comes from my pretty little bed of roses that don't need much attention.  Oh, how I love Spring and all that comes with it.

Every now and then, it's nice to take the time to stop and smell the roses!  Cliche, I know...I couldn't resist.

If you follow me on Instagram {@becauseshannasaidso} you got a glimpse of my bloomed beauties. Let me share in case you missed them.

Gorgeous, right!?!?

Did I mention that I LOVE this time of year!?!

Happy Easter! Please remember it's not about the decorated eggs, a bunny or baskets with straw.
We are celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Cheers to outfit inspirations, not having a green thumb, the Easter Bunny and
most importantly Jesus Christ!
Today I am linking up with Long Distance Loving and her ever so famous "My Friday's Fancies".

A Birthday and Total Awkwardness

Yesterday was a milestone birthday for one of my most favorite ladies in the entire world.  We have been buds since my freshman year of college and were pledge sisters in our sorority.  We have been in each other's weddings, watched each other's babies come into this world, made some crazy traveling memories {most recently, our Vegas trip}, laughed and cried together and most importantly have been by each other's side through our most trying moments.  I consider her more of my sister than my friend.  So, this post is dedicated to her.  I am so lucky to have shared your birthday with you, and for those who know the story...she likes to party like it's 1998!

Before dinner I had the Hubs snap up a few pictures of my outfit.  Okay, I must say, this was total AWKWARDNESS!!!  If you have been reading my blog, you know that most of my outfit posts are taken in the comfort of my backyard.  WOW!  I give props to you ladies that go out and shoot pictures in public.  I am not a shy or introverted girl, but I felt like a HUGE DORK posing on the sidewalk in downtown Austin.  People were seriously staring and giving us the, "you are so shallow for taking all these pictures of yourself look." All I wanted to do was shout out, "This is for my blog, people!!"  Oh well, at the end of the day, who really cares, but I will say again, big high fives for all of you that do this all the time...I think I am going to head back to my little piece of privacy.

Dress: c/o Strut in Austin | Blazer: Lauren Conrad for Kohls | Shoes: Steve Madden | Jewelry:F21

Can you tell that I look a little nervous in the pictures? Through my super fake smile, I was telling the hubs to hurry up and keep snapping! God love him for putting up with me. I know most of us bloggers depend on our devoted {and annoyed at times} better halves to be the men behind the scenes! Let's all go home tonight and tell them that they have been promoted to co-producer.  Do you think they would accept or decline the offer?

Cheers to birthdays, backyards and better halves!

Orange You Glad?

I have always loved orange {maybe because it's one of my high school colors-Jacket Pride Never Dies}and it's one of the must have colors for Spring.  I am also OBSESSED {maybe a strong word} with scarves - every shape, size and color. They are my go-to for an added "pop". So, when I found this fab scarf, I already had a vision in mind...Must.Be.Paired.With.Orange.  So, I took a few items that I already had in my closet and viola...this is what I came up with.
Okay, I love hats, but not digging this fedora.  I wish I could pull off this look...at least I can say I tried...
I think I like myself much better without the hat.

Purple Madden Girl shoes...ladies, snag some bold colored heels...you will be in amazed of how much you have to wear with them...promise, cross my heart!
Just to show you another reason why orange and purple are a match made in fashion Heaven.
A bird's eye view...mixing florals and stripes is a good thing!  Think...."non-matchy-match" and layers!!
I love mixing and matching bangles and wearing a big Texas-sized ring.

Jacket - F21 | Stripe Top - F21 | Purple Tank - Old Navy | Jeans - Express | Shoes - Madden Girl | Hat - F21 | Bracelets - Random Places | Scarf - F21
(I need to invest in F21 stock...it's ridiculous)

Cheers to "Orange you glad I love these colors?"  What colors do you like to pair together?

Date Night Outfit - Vintage Romance

I actually got a date night after a week of my oldest being sick with a virus.  Can I get a "woo-hoo" for adult night?  I decided that, since this doesn't happen very often, I would dress up and look a little fancy.

I found this dress a few years ago at Buffalo Exchange.  It is a great resale store that has chains all over the U.S.  They have some super unique, vintage finds as well as items you can find in retail stores today.  I love thrifting and resale shopping.  It is like going on a treasure hunt and when you find "that" piece, you feel like you have struck gold!

Some good thrift chains to check out are Buffalo Exhange, Platos Closet and even Goodwill.  I know some people my turn their nose at thrifing, but I will tell you first hand, that I have found some fabulous pieces at these shops including brands such as  J.Crew, BCBG, Banana Republic, Lucky Brand, Zara and so much more.

So, if you are looking for an amazing steal and truly enjoy snagging that fab find, I encourage you to check out your local thrift or consignment stores.  You will be amazed at what you will discover.

Remember my philosophy..."You don't have to spend a lot of money to look like you did."

FYI- I kept everything pretty simple in this outfit since the dress has so much going on. A few small, simple accessories are all you need when your main focus is your dress, top or pants.

Dress - thrifted
Flower Belt - Arttie (similar)
Shoes - Payless
Ring - Forever 21 (similar)
Bracelets - Forever 21 & vinatge from my Grandmother
Clutch - Forever 21 (similar)

What has been you're fab find while thrifting?  I would love to know.  Please share your goods!

Cheers to recycling fashion!

2012 Spring Fashion Trend - #2 Feminine Florals

Everything is coming up roses (and daisies and orchids and even daffodils) in 2012.  When the floral trend first appeared last year, I was like really?  Floral patterns, UGH!  It reminded me of Little House on the Prairie and I wasn't digging it....until recently.  As the trend has grown, more designers and lines are creating pieces that I actually like...A LOT!  From tops to dresses to accessories, floral prints are everywhere....even on shoes!

The fab news is that you won't have to worry about looking for that perfect floral top or dress because the stores are making it easy on all of us...the prints will be everywhere!

Like I always say, keep it simple.  Pick one key item and work around it, add simple accessories like cute a pair of shoes, fun nail polish and minimal jewelry.  You don't want to look like The Secret Garden.

I put together two outfits below to give you an idea of what I am talking about. As always, they are affordable fashion suggestions and true fashion on a budget.  Remember, the bargains always show up at my doorstep.

The first is fancier & dressier. I call it "Jackie O." meets "Pretty Woman" meets "The Girl Next Door".  I love the boldness of the dress and the femininity of the accessories.  BTW, I found the dress on www.modcloth.com.  This website is a dream!  Everything on here is so cute, unique,  "boutique-y" looking and best of all AFFORDABLE

Now, are you ready for a "Because Shanna Said So" tip?  Target has almost the exact same shoes that I have featured below for $30.00. I saw them today and fell in LOVE.  I plan to go make my purchase this week!  I tried to find them online, but they aren't listed yet.
